Partner, Kathryn S. Garrett, recently won the Ronald Mitchell award. This award was presented to her by the Child Protection Team of Huntington County. This award is given to individuals or groups of people who have made an impact on the safety of children in Huntington County.

Kerri Baker, Huntington County Department of Child Services Director, said “Katie prides herself of the quality of her work and she is diligent to engage children directly, in various settings to gain a holistic view from their perspective. She is fair, professional and a true child advocate. She works collaboratively with other community partners, along with the DCS staff to help ensure the child receives the services that best meets their needs.”

Pro Bono Award

On June 7, 2019, attorney Mathew J. Roth was recognized as the 2018 Pro Bono Attorney of Distinction for Huntington County through the Volunteer Program of Northeast Indiana. Attorney Roth received this award in recognition of over 100 hours of pro bono legal services provided to Huntington County residents, primarily in the area of family law. Attorney Roth is a partner of DeLaney Hartburg Roth & Garrott LLP, and has been associated with the Firm since August 1999. Attorney Roth focuses his practice on family law matters, and is a registered family law mediator. Mr. Roth also received this award in 2012 and 2015.

Summer Parenting Time

I know it doesn’t feel like Summer due to all of the rain and cool temps, but it is almost the end of June and by now students have been on Summer break for almost a month! If your Court Order directs you and the other parent to follow the Indiana Parenting Time Guidelines, then you are to divide the school break equally (50/50). Memorial Day Weekend – 2019

This coming Monday, May 27, 2019 is Memorial Day! If you and your co-parent divide holidays per the Indiana Parenting Time Guidelines, the CUSTODIAL PARENT is entitled to parenting time from Friday at 6:00 p.m. until the following Monday at 7:00 p.m. for the holiday weekend. If this results in the custodial parent having three (3) weekends in a row, that is permitted per the Guidelines.

Spring Break 2019 and April 1 deadline

The Indiana Parenting Time Guidelines state that Spring Break 2019 is to be exercised by the “non-custodial parent”. Spring Break is defined as two (2) hours after the child is released from school on the child’s last day of school before Spring Break, and ending at 7:00 p.m. on the last day before school resumes. This means, depending on your alternating weekend schedule, that the non-custodial parent could receive three (3) weekends in a row this year, which is acceptable per the Guidelines.

Also, as a reminder, the Guidelines state that non-custodial parents must notify the custodial parent by April 1 of each year of their selection of their extended summer parenting time. If notice is not given by that date, the Guidelines state that the custodial parent shall make the selection. This deadline is fast approaching so be sure to seek guidance from the Indiana Parenting Time Guidelines (https://www.in.gov/judiciary/rules/parenting/ ) if issues arise.
